Kendra Flowers
Yesterday's Girl
Self-released

It's not easy for a burgeoning singer songwriter to channel the spirits of both Janis Joplin and Ani Difranco, but Kendra Flowers does just that on her debut CD. Soul, with just a dash of experimental guitar playing, this album is not just self-important journaling. Kendra's astute storytelling is strengthened by her chops at guitar playing. Playful yet eccentric singer songwriters like Regina Spektor and Nellie Mckay may be all the rage in the NYC area, and Kendra's sound is a little too straightforward to be lumped in to this crowd. But that is a good thing. I wouldn't be surprised if Kendra's sound turns out to be timeless.
