Originality in rock music today seems an impossible dream. Just don't tell that to Paul Alves, who previously spent time in Drill and Electric Turn To Me. His Sousalves solo EP is dense with instinctually smart guitar playing and his voice sounds like nothing else out there. I guess you call Paul a singer-songwriter, but with most singer-songwriters, the lyrics are more interesting than the music. Don't get me wrong, Paul's lyrics ain't bad but the '70s retro guitar on Pink Sleeves is what really makes the song shine. There's good music out there people, but sometimes you just gotta try a little harder to find it.
